White-throated Kingfisher
Animal Description

The White-throated Kingfisher, also known as the White-breasted Kingfisher, is one of the most widespread and striking kingfishers in Sri Lanka. Unlike many other kingfishers, it is not restricted to water — it is often seen far from wetlands, perched on wires or trees in open fields. It is an opportunistic feeder that eats not only fish but also frogs, insects, small reptiles, and even birds. It is known for its bright turquoise-blue back, wings, and tail, contrasted with a chocolate-brown head and underparts, plus a gleaming white throat and breast. Its loud, cackling call makes it easy to detect even before sighting it.
