Black Eagle
Animal Description

The Black Eagle (Ictinaetus malaiensis) is a large, predominantly dark raptor of forested hills that is easily recognised by its long, widely splayed primary “fingers”, slow buoyant flight and yellow cere/legs. It specialises in hunting within and under the forest canopy — taking birds, eggs, bats and small mammals — and builds very large platform nests on tall trees overlooking valleys. In Sri Lanka it is a resident forest eagle, more commonly encountered in the hill forests and some isolated forested hills.
