Gray-headed Fish Eagle
Animal Description

A large, stocky fish-eagle with a pale grey head, dark brown upperparts and a white belly and tail (the tail typically has a broad dark subterminal band). It is a specialist piscivore that perches over water before making short, powerful flights to snatch fish; in Sri Lanka it is often seen around irrigation tanks (locally called the “tank-eagle”). It is solitary or seen in pairs and is currently considered to be declining in parts of its range due to loss of wetland habitat
