Main Animals You May Encounter:
- Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus): Minneriya is famed for large herds of elephants, particularly visible during the dry season from June to September, when they congregate around the Minneriya Tank.
- Sloth Bears (Melursus ursinus): These nocturnal creatures may be observed foraging during early morning or late afternoon safaris.
- Spotted Deer (Axis axis): Commonly seen grazing in the park’s grasslands.
- Birdlife: Minneriya is a birdwatcher’s paradise, hosting species such as painted storks, pelicans, cormorants, and the endemic Sri Lanka junglefowl.
