Animal Description

The Eurasian Otter can be distinguished from other global semi-aquatic mammals by its distinctly flattened, broad head, a thick cone-shaped tail that tapers to a point (used beautifully as a rudder), and prominent, highly sensitive whiskers (vibrissae) around its snout to detect prey movements in murky water. It has small, valved ears and nostrils that close automatically when submerged. Its coat features a rich chocolate-brown upper color that contrasts sharply with a cream-to-whitish throat and chest.
