Animal Description
The Sri Lankan jungle cat (Felis chaus kelaarti) is a slender, long-legged wild feline native to the island's lowlands. Unlike many other small wild cats that are strictly nocturnal and stay hidden deep within dense rain forests, the jungle cat is a bold, diurnal predator that is relatively comfortable hunting out in open, sunlit grasslands and scrub areas.
An interesting fact about the jungle cat is its astonishing leaping ability. To hunt swift prey like birds or rodents, this cat can launch itself vertically up to 2 meters straight into the air from a stationary position, using its front paws to snatch flying birds right out of the sky.
