Animal Description
The Sri Lankan toque macaque (Macaca sinica), an endemic monkey of Sri Lanka, is easily recognized by its reddish‑brown fur, pink face, and the distinctive whorl of hair on the crown, which looks like a small “toque” or cap. Highly intelligent and social, these monkeys are active during the day, spending time climbing, foraging, and grooming in troops. They are opportunistic feeders and can often be seen near temples, villages, and agricultural fields, making them one of the most familiar primates to visitors.
